| Artist Statement For the past year I have been focusing on creating abstract images
with the use of skin and makeup. To produce these works I paint and
juxtapose different body parts and then photograph them from a close
distance. By producing large prints of these images all wrinkles, skin texture
and body hair are accentuated. When looking at these bizarre corporeal
images the viewer can tell that the body has been used but he/she cannot
always tell what part of the body it is. While often I allow one image to stand on its own as one piece of art,
at times I look to find some kind of connection between these prints
and continue to create a site-specific installation where there can
be some kind of dialogue and/or tension between these images. Unwilling to commit myself to one medium I am able to break boundaries
between these by creating a single piece while painting on a three-dimensional
surface, photographing and editing the images digitally, and then creating
a site specific installation. With this work I am also able draw a fine
line between figuration and abstraction. |
