Country, a word often used by someone to refer to land in which they have lived. The idea originally came from the term, “my country” as I have heard Indigenous Australians refer to the land of their birth, origin or history. This land now is of course dramatically altered. What intrigues me is how much more such people can see in their country be them black or white, their knowledge, their connection, their relationship with their country. All of these pictures represent land that has been dramatically altered, by our use of it. Signs of human existence litter these pictures, a telegraph pole here, cut logs there. I do not attempt to document this country, but rather express a feeling that it gives to me. Simon Joannou
